Program Description

This introductory presentation on Transference-Focused Psychotherapy will first familiarize the attendee with the theoretical concepts that underlie an object relations understanding of serious personality pathology. The presentation will go on to give an overview of the basic techniques used in this evidence-based therapy. Then the presentation will discuss elements of borderline personality disorder and narcissistic personality disorder that link them and also elements of those disorders that set them apart and that have implications for the treatment approach to each disorder.

Presenter

Dr. Yeomans is Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Weill Cornell Medical College, Director of Training at the Personality Disorders Institute of Weill-Cornell, and Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. He is president of the International Society for Transference-Focused Psychotherapy, an Honorary Member of the American Psychoanalytic Association, past Chair of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry Committee on Psychotherapy, and member of the Education Committee of Emotions Matter (an advocacy group for BPD).
